The Leaky Gut Protocol is a complete, structured 5-product gut repair kit for dogs — developed by Adored Beast Apothecary founder Julie Anne Lee, DCH RCSHom to address the root causes of leaky gut syndrome rather than suppress its symptoms. Leaky gut — increased intestinal permeability — occurs when the tight junctions of the gastrointestinal lining weaken and separate, allowing toxins, undigested food particles, and pathogens to pass into the bloodstream. Left unaddressed, it can drive a wide range of chronic conditions including skin disease, food allergies, ear infections, digestive problems, and a compromised immune system. Dogs only.
The protocol works in a specific sequence across five targeted products: a 2-day pre-step to prepare the body, followed by four simultaneous steps covering liver detoxification, gut rebalancing, gut flora replenishment, and physical restoration of the gut lining. Each product addresses a different layer of the problem — together they create the conditions for genuine healing rather than symptomatic management. Contains: Gut Soothe (153g), Liver Tonic (60ml), Healthy Gut (83g), Gut Seal (60ml), Rebalancer (60ml).
Skin disease and hot spots, food allergies and sensitivities, chronic ear infections, digestive disorders, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), yeast overgrowth, a compromised immune system, joint pain, anxiety, chronic itching, and recurring infections. Rebalancer — Pre-Step (2 days only)
A homeopathic tincture containing Silicea 30C and Thuja Occidentalis 12C in an organic ethanol and vegetable glycerin base. Used as a 2-day pre-step to prepare the body by assisting in the removal of vaccine-related side effects that can contribute to gut disruption — without removing any vaccine benefits. The Rebalancer bottle is large enough to be repeated up to 8 times throughout the protocol if needed.
Liver Tonic — Step 1: Remove
A herbal liquid tincture containing Dandelion Root, Greater Celandine, Milk Thistle, and Barberry in an organic vegetable glycerine base. Detoxifies and supports the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and gallbladder — the organs responsible for filtering and processing the toxins that have entered the bloodstream through the leaky gut lining. Administer twice daily until the bottle is finished.
Healthy Gut — Step 2: Rebalance
A digestive enzyme, prebiotic, and probiotic powder containing four targeted enzymes (Pancreatin 8X, Bromelain, Betaine HCl, Papain) combined with a 14-strain, 30 Billion CFU probiotic base and Larch Arabinogalactan prebiotic. Rebalances and cultivates the proper growing conditions for friendly digestive flora destroyed by antibiotics, toxins, and gut damage. Divide the daily dose evenly across meals.
Gut Soothe — Step 3: Replenish
A herbal prebiotic and probiotic powder containing Slippery Elm Bark, Marshmallow Root, L-Glutamine, DGL Licorice, N-Acetyl Glucosamine, Aloe Vera, and a 30 Billion CFU probiotic base. Soothes and repairs the mucosal lining of the bowel, fights yeast, and replenishes beneficial bacteria. Add to food once daily.
Gut Seal — Step 4: Restore
A homeopathic remedy containing Porcine Cartilage 12C, Calendula Officinalis 12C, Thiosinaminum 12C, and Arnica. Works to physically restore, strengthen, and tighten the separated junctions of the gastrointestinal lining — addressing the structural damage of leaky gut directly. Add to a small amount of food once daily until the bottle is finished.
Begin with the 2-day Rebalancer pre-step before starting anything else. After completing the pre-step, begin Steps 1–4 simultaneously — all four products (Liver Tonic, Healthy Gut, Gut Soothe, and Gut Seal) are given at the same time, each according to their own directions. Do not put the glass dropper directly in your dog's mouth — glass droppers can break if bitten. Refrigerate Liver Tonic after opening.
Pre-Step — Rebalancer (Days 1–2 only)
Add 4 pumps to a small amount of food twice per day for two days only. After completing the pre-step, set Rebalancer aside and begin Steps 1–4.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHow long does the protocol take and will my dog need it for life?
Many dogs achieve full symptom resolution with a single kit. Others with deeper or more chronic gut damage may need ongoing support or multiple kits. You should see gradual improvement throughout the course — if improvement stalls or conditions worsen, it may indicate a yeast overgrowth, in which case the Yeasty Beast Protocol is recommended first, followed by a return to the Leaky Gut Protocol. Once your dog has fully improved, repeating one protocol per year is a good way to maintain gut health.
Should I do the Yeasty Beast Protocol before this one?
If your dog has ever been diagnosed with yeast in the ears or on the skin, or has a yeasty smell (described as dirty socks or stinky old cheese), it is recommended to complete the Yeasty Beast Protocol first. Yeast is deeply damaging to the gut and in most cases leaky gut will be present alongside a yeast infection. Clearing the yeast first creates better conditions for the Leaky Gut Protocol to work effectively.
How long until I see results?
Results depend on how long your dog has been unwell, how much medication they have been on, and the quality of their diet. Some dogs show improvement within one week. Others may take a month or more. Healing works from the inside out — energy, mood, and sleep often improve before visible skin or ear symptoms resolve.
Do I need to stop my dog's allergy medications?
Do not stop any prescription medications cold turkey. If your dog is on drugs such as Atopica, Apoquel, antibiotics, or steroids, consult your veterinarian before making any changes. A gradual reduction under veterinary guidance is always preferable to an abrupt stop.
Some products ran out before others — do I keep giving the rest?
Yes. Because the powder serving sizes are weight-based while the tinctures and homeopathics are not, products will run out at different rates. Continue giving each product until it is finished. Gut Seal is the product most likely to last longest — if you feel more gut healing support is needed, additional Gut Seal can be requested directly from Adored Beast Apothecary. The other protocol products can be ordered individually from our website.
Why is there so much Rebalancer left over?
The Rebalancer bottle is intentionally large. It can be repeated up to 8 times throughout the protocol — add it back in for 2 days whenever you feel the protocol has stalled or improvement has plateaued. It can also be given to other dogs in the household who have been vaccinated, as it helps address long-term vaccine side effects.
Can I give Gut Soothe alongside prescription medications?
If there is any concern, give Gut Soothe 1–2 hours after any pharmaceutical medication. The mucilage content in marshmallow root and slippery elm can form a protective coating over the digestive tract lining, which may affect the absorption rate of some medications if given simultaneously.
Will my dog's symptoms get worse before they get better?
In cases of significant yeast overgrowth, a rapid die-off or detox reaction can occur at the start of the protocol. If this happens, pause the Leaky Gut Protocol, complete the Yeasty Beast Protocol, and then return to the Leaky Gut Protocol.
