Pawzler Guide
Pawzler is a modular dog puzzle system — every Pawzle clips into a Base, every configuration is different, and the challenge grows with your dog. This guide walks you through choosing your first set, understanding the difficulty levels, running good play sessions, and keeping everything clean.
Which set should I buy
Pawzler has four sets and a custom option. The right starting point depends on how much puzzle experience your dog has. Follow the branch that fits.
The three difficulty levels
Every Pawzle has a built-in difficulty based on its mechanism. You can build a single puzzle from any mix of levels — and change it again the next day.
Simple mechanics
Sliding and pushing. Good starting points for dogs new to puzzle play.
Multi-step mechanics
Lifting, blocking, lever mechanics. A step up in complexity.
Sequencing puzzles
Multi-step mechanisms requiring sequencing and persistence.
The four sets compared
Each set comes with a Base and a curated selection of Pawzles. Here's what's inside each, and who they're for.
Beginner Set
For dogs new to puzzle toys. Level 1 Pawzles only. Builds confidence through early wins.
Rainbow Set
For dogs who have mastered the basics. A mix of Level 1 and Level 2 Pawzles for more varied mechanisms.
Smarty Set
Similar difficulty level to Rainbow, but with a different Pawzle mix. Good if Rainbow is sold out or you want variety.
Genius Set
For experienced puzzle solvers. Combines Level 2 and Level 3 Pawzles. Not recommended as a first puzzle.
The Treat Maze Set is a modular maze puzzle — dogs navigate a treat through a connected path of Corner, Straight, and U-Turn Pawzles across the entire board. Harder than the Genius Set. A completely new kind of challenge.

Getting started
What do I need to begin?
Every Pawzler setup starts with a Base. Pawzles cannot function without one — they must be clipped into the Base to stay in place during play. If you're buying your first Pawzler, start with a set, which includes a Base and a curated selection of Pawzles. If you already have a Base, you can add individual Pawzles at any time.
How do I set up Pawzler?
Clip your chosen Pawzles into the Base — each Base has 12 anchoring spots. You don't need to fill all 12; start with fewer pieces for a simpler puzzle and add more as your dog builds confidence. Fill each Pawzle's compartment with treats, meals, or a spreadable like peanut butter or yogurt, then place the puzzle on the floor and let your dog explore.
What treats work best?
Most Pawzles work well with small dry treats. For flat or lick-style Pawzles like Terra, spreadables such as peanut butter, yogurt, or wet food work best. Mixing treat types across compartments adds an extra layer of interest — dogs have to decide where to focus first.
Load treats before you hand it over — variety across compartments keeps them guessing.
Building and expanding
Can I mix Pawzles from different sets?
Yes. All Pawzles are compatible with all Bases regardless of difficulty level or which set they came from. You can rearrange, combine, and expand freely across the entire Pawzler range.
Can I connect multiple Bases together?
Yes. Larger Pawzles — including Terra, Oli, Kaya, and Louvre — can be used to link two Bases together, extending the overall puzzle footprint and increasing the number of possible configurations.
Can I build my own set instead of buying a pre-made one?
Yes. You can purchase a Base and any individual Pawzles to build a custom configuration. Pre-made sets offer better value and take the guesswork out of pairing. Note: Bonus Pawzles included in sets are pre-selected by Pawzler and cannot be swapped.
Is Pawzler suitable for cats and other animals?
Yes — Pawzler is suitable for dogs, cats, and small animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters. All ages and sizes.
Play and supervision
Pawzler is an enrichment toy — not a chew toy. Always supervise play, particularly if your dog is prone to chewing. The moment chewing starts, calmly end the session and remove the puzzle. Return it only once your dog is calm and ready to problem-solve again. Pawzler pieces damaged through chewing are not covered under warranty.
Hands on, eyes on. Guided play is better play.
How long should a play session be?
Follow your dog's lead. Most dogs disengage naturally once they have worked through the puzzle. If your dog loses interest quickly, try higher-value treats or reduce the number of Pawzles. If your dog finishes too fast, add more pieces or rearrange the layout before the next session.
Should I leave Pawzler out between sessions?
No. Put it away between sessions. This keeps it novel, prevents unsupervised chewing, and means each session feels like a fresh challenge.
Troubleshooting
My dog solves it too quickly — what should I do?
First check whether your dog is actually problem-solving or using brute force — pawing aggressively, flipping the puzzle, or rushing through without pausing. Brute force isn't true problem-solving and the enrichment benefit is lost. Pause the session calmly and only return the puzzle once your dog settles. Reward deliberate, calm solving.
If your dog is genuinely solving thoughtfully and finishing quickly, increase the difficulty: add higher-level Pawzles, use Peach as a blocker, rearrange the configuration, or connect a second Base.
My dog is not engaging with the puzzle — what should I do?
Try introducing a single Pawzle rather than a full configuration — the full puzzle can overwhelm dogs new to enrichment play. Increase the treat value; if your dog is indifferent to treats you've tried, experiment with something more motivating. Some dogs aren't toy-motivated, and that's fine.
My Pawzle looks broken or out of place — what do I do?
It's almost certainly not broken. Remove all components from the Base and reassemble from scratch — Pawzles pushed too firmly can shift out of position and simply need to be reseated. If something is genuinely damaged, bring it in to Woof Living at Wheelock Place and we'll take a look.
My dog is chewing the Pawzles — what should I do?
End the session immediately and remove the puzzle. Don't return it until your dog is calm. If chewing is a consistent issue, start with a single simpler Pawzle under very close supervision and build up slowly. Pawzler pieces damaged through chewing are not covered under warranty.
Care and cleaning
How do I clean Pawzler?
Detach all Pawzles from the Base before cleaning. Hand wash in warm water with a pet-friendly washing liquid, soaking for about ten minutes — watch the steps here. Or place on the top rack of a dishwasher. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scrubbing pads.
For a quick clean after each session, wipe down with unscented pet-friendly wipes.
Hand wash or top rack — either works.
What is Pawzler made from?
Food-safe, BPA-free, phthalate-free plastic with smooth edges and no sharp parts. Designed and manufactured in Lithuania to EU and US FDA food-safety standards.
What does food-safe plastic mean? Does it mean my pet can eat Pawzler?
Food-safe means the plastic is certified not to leach harmful chemicals into food or saliva — so every lick, every treat, every slobbery session is chemically safe. It's the same standard applied to food containers and cutlery. Most puzzle toys on the market don't specify their material certifications. Pawzler does — and that matters when your dog's mouth is involved in every interaction with the toy.
That said, food-safe isn't the same as indestructible. Pawzler is an enrichment toy, not a chew toy. If chewing starts, end the session and remove the puzzle.
