Taki x NAAF Horse Lean Meat (Akami) is a single ingredient dog treat made from one thing: slow dried Japanese horse akami. Akami is the lean red muscle of the horse, the cut most associated with quality horse meat in Japan. Taki and NAAF dry it whole in Kagoshima, so what arrives in the pouch is meat and only meat.

50g and 150g pouches. Ready to serve, no rehydration needed.

A novel red meat. Horse is a protein most dogs in Singapore have never encountered. Beef, chicken, lamb and salmon dominate local bowls, which makes horse a genuinely new option for owners working through a rotation or looking for something outside the usual set. It is naturally lean, and in Japan horse meat has traditionally been valued for its iron content.

Benefits

Single ingredient — Horse akami and nothing else. No binders, no glycerine, no preservatives, no flavouring, no colouring.

High-value reward — Because it is slow dried rather than cooked with fat or sugar, the flavour comes from the meat itself. Most dogs treat it as high value, useful for recall work, vet visits, grooming, or anything where you need attention held a moment longer than usual.

Naturally lean — Horse akami is a lean cut, and in Japan it has traditionally been valued for its iron content.

Lab tested and published — Every Taki x NAAF cut is independently lab tested, and the full composition is published rather than summarised. Nothing is averaged across the range or estimated from a reference table.

Composition

Composition (per 100g) Value
Crude protein 77.0% (min)
Crude fat 8.0% (min)
Crude fibre 1.1% (max)
Crude ash 3.7% (max)
Moisture 8.4% (max)
Energy 350 kcal

At 350 kcal per 100g, a 50g pouch carries roughly 175 kcal in total, and a 150g pouch roughly 525 kcal.

Made in Kagoshima, Japan

One hundred percent made in Kagoshima, the same origin line on every cut in the range regardless of the market you are shopping from. Kagoshima sits at the southern tip of Kyushu, on volcanic soil under Sakurajima, and is one of Japan's leading livestock prefectures. NAAF is the meat specialist Taki has worked with there for ten years, and every cut in this range is dried in the prefecture rather than assembled elsewhere.

Feeding Guide

Serve as a treat or topper alongside your dog's usual diet. A widely recognised guideline is to keep treats to around ten percent of daily calorie intake, so adjust meals accordingly on days you use more. Larger pieces can be torn or snapped down to training size. Supervise your dog while chewing, and keep fresh water available.

Storage

Reseal the pouch tightly after opening and store somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Singapore's humidity works against dried meat once a pouch is open, so an open pouch left out will soften faster than one kept sealed. Freeze-dried and air-dried treats are shelf-stable and do not require refrigeration when stored properly.

About Taki x NAAF

Taki is a Japanese pet treat brand built on a simple position: dried whole, nothing hidden, tested and published. The NAAF collaboration is the result of a ten year working relationship with a Kagoshima meat specialist, and covers slow dried cuts across horse, venison, wadori chicken, shirobuta pork and wagyu, taken nose to tail.

Pairs well with: the rest of the Taki range if you are rotating proteins, and any of our enrichment toys if you would rather your dog work for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is akami?

Akami is the lean red muscle meat of the horse, as distinct from fattier cuts. In Japan it is the cut most associated with quality horse meat, and it is naturally low in fat.

Where is Taki x NAAF Horse Lean Meat made?

Japan. Taki x NAAF Horse Lean Meat (Akami) is one hundred percent made in Kagoshima prefecture. NAAF is Taki's meat specialist partner of ten years.

What is in it?

Horse akami and nothing else. It is a single ingredient treat, slow dried whole, with no binders, preservatives, flavourings or colourings.

Is horse a good protein for dogs on an elimination or rotation diet?

Horse is a novel protein for most dogs in Singapore, meaning it is one they are unlikely to have eaten before, which is why it is a common choice for protein rotation. If your dog is on a veterinary elimination diet, check with your vet before introducing anything new.

How much protein does it contain?

Crude protein is a minimum of 77.0% per 100g, with crude fat at a minimum of 8.0% and moisture at a maximum of 8.4%. Energy is 350 kcal per 100g. Every cut in the range is independently lab tested and its composition published.

How many pieces can I give my dog in a day?

Keep treats to around ten percent of your dog's daily calorie intake. At 350 kcal per 100g, ten grams of horse akami is roughly 35 kcal. Reduce meals on days you train heavily. This is a general guideline; your vet can give you a figure specific to your dog.

Is it suitable for puppies and senior dogs?

Yes, as a treat alongside a complete diet. It is a dried meat rather than a hard chew, and larger pieces can be torn down to a size that suits the dog in front of you. Supervise chewing and keep fresh water available.

What sizes are available?

Horse Lean Meat (Akami) comes in 50g and 150g pouches.

How should I store it in Singapore's humidity?

Reseal the pouch after every use and keep it in a cool, dry cupboard away from direct sunlight. Dried single ingredient meat has no preservatives, so an open pouch left in humid air will soften faster than one kept sealed.
