Soil & Sea is a primordial pre and probiotic supplement for dogs and cats — part of Adored Beast Apothecary's ancestral ROOTS line. It delivers 10 Billion CFU of soil-based probiotic bacteria alongside prebiotic chlorella and ancient humic and fulvic acid: three foundational inputs that modern sterilised farming has stripped from our animals' diets.

Developed by Adored Beast Apothecary founder Julie Anne Lee, DCH RCSHom, Soil & Sea addresses a gap that conventional probiotics cannot fill. Because it contains no Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium species, it is the only Adored Beast probiotic suitable for animals with SIBO — and an essential addition to any probiotic rotation for all dogs and cats. The 10 Billion CFU probiotic blend in Soil & Sea is derived from primordial organic soils and composed entirely of Bacillus species — B. subtilis, B. pumilus, B. coagulans, and B. licheniformis. These are spore-forming bacteria with an ancient evolutionary history, naturally resilient and stable.

Unlike Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species found in most commercial probiotics, Bacillus strains do not colonise the small intestine — they remain intact and travel directly to the lower intestine and colon where they exert their effect. This makes Soil & Sea uniquely suitable for animals with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), where conventional probiotics can worsen the problem by propagating in the wrong part of the gut.

Chlorella (648mg per serving) is a prehistoric single-celled freshwater algae independently researched by Adored Beast Apothecary as a functional prebiotic — one that actively supports the viability of the probiotic bacteria in this formula. There is no equivalent on the commercial market.

Beyond its prebiotic function, chlorella is a complete protein source containing all nine essential amino acids. Rich in antioxidant compounds including chlorophyll, vitamin C, beta-carotene, lycopene, and lutein, it has been shown to support cognitive function, bone, joint, and muscle health, cardiovascular health, and healthy skin and coat. It also helps bind and remove heavy metals from the body — a meaningful benefit for pets exposed to processed food residues and environmental toxins.

The chlorella in Soil & Sea is freshwater sourced and naturally low in iodine, making it safe for animals with thyroid conditions. The cell wall remains intact, reinforcing its role as a prebiotic substrate rather than a food source.

Humic and fulvic acid (650mg per serving) are ancient organic compounds formed over millions of years from decomposed plant matter, providing trace minerals, antioxidants, powerful phytochemicals, and amino acids in a form the body can readily absorb.

Humic acid fights inflammation, promotes efficient absorption of food, and supports the immune system. Fulvic acid increases cell membrane permeability, allowing a greater body of bioavailable nutrients to enter cells — making everything your animal eats work harder. Both also support detoxification by binding to and facilitating the removal of heavy metals from the body.

Conventional probiotics — including other Adored Beast formulas — contain Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains that can propagate in the small intestine and exacerbate SIBO. Typical prebiotics such as maltodextrin can also worsen SIBO by feeding bacterial overgrowth in the wrong location.

Soil & Sea contains neither. Its Bacillus-only probiotic blend bypasses the small intestine entirely, and its chlorella prebiotic does not contain the sugars that drive SIBO. For dogs and cats suspected or confirmed to have SIBO, Soil & Sea is the appropriate starting point — and often the only probiotic that can be safely used during active treatment.

Even for animals without SIBO, Soil & Sea provides bacterial diversity that no other Adored Beast probiotic delivers.
