Unlike the Ava, the Fossil is a fixed-size collar — it does not adjust. It is the choice for dogs whose neck size is stable and whose owners prefer the texture, weight, and character of woven paracord over smooth nylon. Why is the Fossil fixed-size while the Ava is adjustable?
The Fossil is woven from paracord — its construction does not allow for the same sliding adjustment mechanism as a nylon webbing collar. This is a deliberate design choice that contributes to the seamless weave aesthetic. If you need an adjustable collar, the Ava or Ava Martingale are the right options.

What is the difference between the Fossil and the Ava?
The Ava is made from smooth vinyl-coated nylon and is fully adjustable. The Fossil is woven from rock climbing-grade paracord, has a fixed size, and includes a tag attachment hook. It is machine washable. Choose the Fossil if you know your dog's exact neck size and prefer the look and texture of woven paracord.

Is the Fossil Paracord waterproof?
The paracord construction is naturally resistant to rot and mildew, dries quickly, and holds up well to wet conditions. It is not 100% waterproof in the same way as the vinyl-coated nylon Ava. For dogs that swim frequently, the Ava is the more practical choice.
