Made from natural cellulose and a corn-plant-derived polymer (the same Vernovo formula behind every BetterBone), the venison scent is a vegetarian infusion with no animal protein and no animal byproducts. That means it's still hypoallergenic and safe for dogs with protein sensitivities — including a diagnosed venison allergy — while still giving dogs the savoury, game-inspired scent they're drawn to.
New naming, same bones. We're updating some names across the BetterBone range: XS was previously labelled Mini, and Moderate density was previously labelled Medium. You may see either name for a little while during the transition — the products themselves haven't changed.

What makes BetterBone different
The material at the heart of every BetterBone is called Vernovo — a proprietary formula developed with over 25 years of material science expertise. It is renewable, sustainably sourced from within the European Union, and designed to give dogs a satisfying, durable chew without the risks of nylon, rawhide, real bones, or antlers.
Why not antlers, rawhide, or yak chews? Board-certified veterinary dentists have long warned that these harder natural chews can be too hard for a dog's teeth. Antlers and dried yak chews are frequently flagged for causing tooth fractures or gum injuries serious enough to need a vet visit, while rawhide can splinter or swell if swallowed. BetterBone's three densities let you match hardness to your dog's actual bite strength, without gambling on a chew that doesn't give at all.
Every BetterBone is hypoallergenic, splinter-resistant, and manufactured in the EU to strict chemical and labour standards. It leaves no stains, produces no lingering odour beyond the scent infusion, and does not leave behind the microplastics associated with nylon chews. Packaging is 100% FSC Mix recycled materials, plastic-free, and printed with non-toxic ink.
BetterBone is a chew, not a food. The venison scent is a flavour infusion, not real meat, and the bone is not intended to be eaten. Small fragments released during normal chewing are not harmful, but the bone should be replaced before it wears down to a swallowable size.

When to replace your BetterBone
BetterBone is built to last several weeks with regular use. Replace it when any of the following apply:
Size: Replace when the bone has worn down to a size your dog could swallow.
Damage: Replace if visible cracks, splinters, or chunks are breaking off.
Discomfort: Replace if your dog shows any discomfort or loses interest in the bone.

Does BetterBone Venison contain real venison?
No. The venison scent is a vegetarian infusion made without any animal byproducts. It's designed to give dogs a savoury, game-inspired aroma while remaining fully plant-based and hypoallergenic.
Is it safe for dogs with a venison protein allergy?
Yes. Because the flavour is a scent infusion rather than an animal-derived ingredient, BetterBone Venison is suitable for dogs with venison sensitivities. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy, it's still worth checking with your vet before introducing any new chew.
My dog chewed through it very quickly. What should I do?
Move up one density. Fast consumption usually means the chew is too soft for your dog's jaw strength. Start with Light or Moderate if you're unsure, and adjust from there using the Chew Guide.
Is it safe if my dog ingests small pieces?
Small fragments released during normal chewing are not a concern — the ingredients are plant-based and non-toxic. The bone should be replaced before it wears down to a swallowable size.
