Dogs chew. It is one of the most natural things they do. The problem is most of the options on the market are made from nylon or rawhide — materials that were never meant to be in a dog's mouth in the first place. BetterBone Veggie was made to change that.
BetterBone Veggie carries a fresh, garden-inspired scent — clean, mild, and universally appealing, for dogs who love simple, wholesome aromas. Like every BetterBone flavour, it's a vegetarian scent infusion made without animal byproducts, so it's still hypoallergenic and safe for dogs with protein sensitivities.
New naming, same bones. We're updating some names across the BetterBone range: this flavour was previously listed as BetterBone Classic, XS was previously labelled Mini, and Moderate density was previously labelled Medium. You may see either name for a little while during the transition — the products themselves haven't changed.
BetterBone Veggie is available at Woof Living, Wheelock Place, with free delivery on orders above $49. Available in XS, Small, and Large, and in Light, Moderate, and Hard density — use the BetterBone Chew Guide to find the right combination for your dog.
What makes BetterBone different
The material at the heart of every BetterBone is called Vernovo — a proprietary formula developed with over 25 years of material science expertise. It is renewable, sustainably sourced from within the European Union, and designed to give dogs a satisfying, durable chew without the risks of nylon, rawhide, real bones, or antlers.
Why not antlers, rawhide, or yak chews? Board-certified veterinary dentists have long warned that these harder natural chews can be too hard for a dog's teeth. Antlers and dried yak chews are frequently flagged for causing tooth fractures or gum injuries serious enough to need a vet visit, while rawhide can splinter or swell if swallowed. BetterBone's three densities let you match hardness to your dog's actual bite strength, without gambling on a chew that doesn't give at all.
Every BetterBone is hypoallergenic, splinter-resistant, and manufactured in the EU to strict chemical and labour standards. It leaves no stains, produces no lingering odour beyond the scent infusion, and does not leave behind the microplastics associated with nylon chews. Packaging is 100% FSC Mix recycled materials, plastic-free, and printed with non-toxic ink.
BetterBone is a chew, not a food. It is not a meal supplement and should not replace your dog's diet. Small fragments ingested during normal chewing are not harmful, but the bone should be replaced before it reduces to a swallowable size.
Choose your density
BetterBone Veggie comes in three densities. Choose based on your dog's chewing style and jaw strength — not just their size.
| Density |
Best for |
Similar to |
| Light |
Teething puppies, senior dogs, gentle chewers, and dogs who lose interest in overly hard bones |
Rawhide — but far safer and without the splintering risk |
| Moderate |
Most adult dogs and regular chewers who want everyday enrichment |
Nylon chews and hardwood — the everyday chew |
| Hard |
Aggressive chewers and power chompers who make quick work of other chews |
Antlers — but without the tooth fracture risk |
Not sure which density is right? Use the BetterBone Chew Guide to find the recommended density for your dog's breed, size, and age — including a full breed-by-breed table with jaw strength data.
Choose your size
Select the size that matches your dog's weight. If your dog is an aggressive chewer or sits near the top of a weight range, size up.

Frequently asked questions
Is BetterBone Veggie suitable for dogs with allergies?
Yes. BetterBone Veggie contains no animal protein, artificial flavours, or common allergens. It is a recommended choice for dogs with food sensitivities or known protein allergies.
Does BetterBone Veggie contain real vegetables?
No. The garden-inspired scent is a vegetarian aroma infusion, not a food ingredient made from real vegetables. It's designed to make chewing more engaging while keeping the bone fully plant-based and hypoallergenic.
Is BetterBone Veggie the same as BetterBone Classic?
Yes. BetterBone Classic has been renamed BetterBone Veggie. The chew itself is unchanged — only the name and packaging are being updated.
My dog chewed through it very quickly. What should I do?
Move up one density. Fast consumption usually means the chew is too soft for your dog's jaw strength. Start with Light or Moderate if you are unsure, and adjust from there. You can also refer to the Chew Guide for breed-specific recommendations.
Is it safe if my dog ingests small pieces?
Small fragments ingested during normal chewing are not a concern — the ingredients are plant-based and non-toxic. The bone should be replaced before it wears down to a swallowable size.
Where is BetterBone made?
BetterBone is manufactured in the European Union, sourced and produced to EU chemical and labour standards.
