The Haqihana H-Harness is handmade in Italy by specialised artisans — one at a time, with every component produced in Europe. It has been in production since 2003, and in that time it has become one of the most widely recommended harnesses among canine behaviour professionals, veterinarians, and force-free trainers worldwide.
The H-shaped design distributes pressure exclusively across the sternum and chest — never the neck, throat, or shoulders. When your dog pulls, the force travels along the skeleton rather than compressing soft tissue. Nothing rubs, nothing restricts, nothing presses on the trachea. The result is a harness that allows full freedom of movement for the shoulder and scapula while keeping the dog comfortable and secure.
Design & Construction
Five-point adjustable fit — two buckles for quick on/off, and five adjustment points that allow the harness to be fine-tuned to your dog's exact proportions. All parts are assembled with safety stitching, and every component that contacts the skin is finished with a special edge stitch to prevent rubbing — especially important for short-haired breeds. Plastic components (buckles and adjusters) are made from acetal resin — rounded, free from sharp edges, and engineered to maintain mechanical and shock resistance even in extreme conditions.
Materials
The webbing is high-tenacity spun-dyed nylon-6, woven in Italy to Haqihana's own design. Nylon-6 is valued for its softness, excellent strength-to-weight ratio, abrasion resistance, and chemical and biological stability. It is non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and fully recyclable. The spun-dyed process locks colour into the fibre during production rather than applying it afterwards, which means the colour does not fade, bleed, or wash out over time.
Metal hardware — D-rings and connection points — is AISI 304 stainless steel, which does not release nickel or cause allergic reactions, in compliance with European regulations. Buckles and adjusters are acetal resin, moulded in Italy.
Size Guide
Measure around your dog's chest girth at the widest point, approximately four fingers behind the front legs. If your dog falls between two sizes, Haqihana generally recommends sizing up — this accounts for potential weight changes and the natural shrinkage of webbing (approximately 2–3%) after the first wash or two.

Long versions (XXSL, XSL, SL, ML) are also available — these have longer back and sternum straps designed for deep-chested or long-bodied breeds such as Greyhounds, Whippets, Dachshunds, and Corgis. The Long version shifts the chest strap rearward by approximately 5 cm, ensuring adequate clearance from the armpits and scapula. If you're unsure whether your dog needs a Standard or Long version, feel free to contact us for guidance.
How to check the fit.
Once the harness is on, you should be able to slide two fingers under the webbing at the neck and spine. The chest strap (the lower part of the H) should sit approximately four fingers behind the back of the front legs — if it's pressing into the armpits, consider the Long version of the same size. The leash ring should sit at the base of the neck between the shoulder blades.
Care Instructions
Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle — place the harness in a delicates bag. Use a mild detergent and cold or lukewarm water. Hang to dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry. Expect approximately 2–3% shrinkage after the first one to two washes.
5-Year Guarantee
Haqihana guarantees every harness for five years from the date of purchase against defects, breakages, or issues that are not the result of normal wear and tear — provided the harness has been used correctly. The guarantee does not cover damage from chewing or failure to follow care instructions.
About Haqihana
Haqihana is an Italian company based in Fenegrò, Como, producing harnesses and leashes by hand since 2003. Every component is sourced and manufactured in Europe — webbing woven in Italy, hardware moulded in Italy, and final assembly by specialised artisans in their own workshop. The brand is widely used by canine behaviour professionals and force-free trainers, and is recommended by veterinarians for its anatomically considered design.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do so many trainers and behaviourists recommend Haqihana?
The H-shaped design allows full freedom of shoulder and scapula movement while distributing any pulling force across the sternum and chest — not the neck or throat. This makes it non-inhibitive: it doesn't restrict the dog's natural gait or cause discomfort, which is essential for force-free training and behaviour work. The quality of materials and construction also means it lasts years without degrading.
What is the difference between Standard and Long versions?
Long versions (XXSL, XSL, SL, ML) have longer back and sternum straps — approximately 5 cm longer than the Standard in the same chest size. They are designed for deep-chested or long-bodied breeds (Greyhounds, Whippets, Dachshunds, Corgis) where the Standard version would sit too close to the armpits. The chest girth range is the same — only the longitudinal straps differ.
How do I measure my dog for a Haqihana harness?
Measure around the widest part of your dog's ribcage, approximately four fingers behind the front legs. Use a soft tape measure and keep it snug but not tight. Compare the measurement to the size chart above. If your dog falls between two sizes, size up to allow for weight fluctuation and the 2–3% webbing shrinkage that occurs after the first wash.
Is this harness suitable for dogs that pull?
Yes. The Haqihana harness is designed so that when a dog pulls, the pressure is distributed across the sternum and chest — not the neck. It does not restrict movement or cause discomfort, which actually helps reduce reactive pulling over time when used alongside positive reinforcement training. It is not a no-pull device — it is a comfort harness that happens to handle pulling well.
Will the colour fade over time?
No. Haqihana uses spun-dyed nylon-6, which means the colour is locked into the fibre during manufacturing rather than applied as a surface dye. This makes it highly resistant to fading from UV exposure, washing, and general wear.
Can I pair this with a Haqihana leash?
Yes — Haqihana leashes are made from the same spun-dyed nylon-6 webbing and are available in matching colours. They attach to the D-ring on the harness via a stainless steel BREMA snap-hook.
